Overview

Start with early morning pickup from your hotel in Istanbul and transfer to the airport. Take the morning flight to Izmir and upon arrival, your guide will meet you in the arrivals hall and take you to Pergamon.

Once at the archaeological site embark on a guided tour. See the majestic acropolis, which was modelled after the Acropolis of Athens. Discover steep slopes of the Theatre of Pergamon which once could accommodate around 10,000 people, and is the steepest theatre of its kind. Enjoy the panoramic views from the hilltop overlooking the site.

Later, explore the famous Sanctuary of Asclepius, located in the valley. reputed to have received visions from the Greek God of Medicine, Asclepius, in order to cure their ailments.

After lunch visit the Red Basilica where you can see many original artefacts found on the site. At the end of the day, r to Izmir Airport for your flight back to Istanbul. Upon arrival in Istanbul, meet your driver will take you back to your hotel.

The Acropolis
The Acropolis of Pergamum (Pergamon) is certainly dramatic, perched atop a high, steep-sided hill to the northeast of the modern city center

The great temples and dramatic theater are visible from anywhere in the city, as they were meant to be.

Follow the signs to the Akropolis. From the Bergama Museum at the center of Bergama, it’s over 5 km (3 miles) to the top of the hill along a narrow road that winds around the hill. A gate near the bottom of the hill is closed during the night to prevent access to the site.

Red Basilica (Kizil Avlu)
Bergama‘s Red Hall (Kızıl Avlu) or Red Basilica (map) was built for worship of the Egyptian gods Serapis, Isis andHarpocrates at a time in the 2nd century AD when Egyptianreligion was reaching into the Roman Empire.

Faced with marble and surrounded by a colonnade, the huge building looked very different in Roman times. A stream ran beneath it in stone channels, its waters used for ritual bathing and ablutions.
